Learning to blog again

Its been so long since I have actively blogged that I have forgotten most of what I knew. I am working for a new company, LiveAgendas and we are discussing social media and how it can help business. We are considering a blog as well as facebook and twitter. I may be working on that so I guess I better get back up to speed here on this one.
I am living in Wimberley Texas, the beautiful hill country, where all the bluebonnets and other wildflowers bloom in the spring. I am near the Blanco River and it is really beautiful here, but it is a little strange to know that it is 3 days before Christmas and it is 75 degrees. No rain, snow or sleet to make it feel like Christmas. I liked the snow in Ohio during Dec and Jan but it did stick around too long. All you northern folks enjoy it and I'll try to get by with a snowball made from ice in my refridgerator!!!!!!

I have not been here in a long time. Lots has happened and I am now living in Wimberley, TX. The beautiful hill country and it is so scenic here. I am near the Blanco River and the area has access to the park so in the summer I can swim in the clear cool waters of the river. Giant cypress trees hang over the edge and big flat roks are just below the surface where you can sit in the cool water and feel the current washing by. Its great! All your Ohio knitting friends you are invited to visit. Come see me.

The house I grew up in.

Wow what a change from when I lived there. My family moved into this house when I was 3 years old and it was not a new house then. This house was originally a one story house and the part that is upstairs was the house I lived in. The family that bought it raised the whole house up on jacks and then poured a concrete slab and build the first floor. When that was ready they lowered the part that had been lifted up and sat it on top of the new part. The upstairs porch was our front porch and the door that comes out on the upstairs deck was our front door. The window to the left of the front door was my corner bedroom. This house is in El Jardin Del Mar and it is one block from Galveston bay. The street behind this house faces the bay and I could see the water from our back porch. It is in a great location as all the Hurricanes that have come into Galveston bay it has never been harmed, other than a few shingles off the roof. This is really amazing as storms have hit a few blocks south and a few blocks north and have wiped out all those homes and this neighborhood still survives.

I just finished Hint 8 of the Secret of the Stole III. I got it done before work on Oct 8 2008. I love knitting this and the knit picks yarn is great. It is Gloss lace weight in Celery green with beads. Of course the color doesn't look right and the beads don't show. It looks really nice in person thought.

I finished Hint 7 tonight at 8:00 PM. That is the quickest I have done a hint. Now I'll have to figure what to work on until next Friday when Hint 8 comes out. This has been lots of fun and it is really pretty. Again I can not get the color to look right in the pictures. It is a nice celery green with little glass beads.

Here is the Secret of the Stole III. I finished this Hint very quick this week. I finished Monday night. It is looking good and much better than this photo. For some reason this color just does not photgraph well. The color is nothing like whats in the picture and the beads don't show at all. This has been a fun knit.

I finished Hint 5 on Monday night but since I did not get the power on until tonight I couldn't post the pictures. When I got home tonight from work at 11:30 PM the power was on. Yeah!!!! Now I can take a shower at my own house instead of going in early to the Ronald McDonald House and using one of the spare rooms to get dressed for work.
Anyway here it is and it is really looking pretty. I just wish I had used white, pale pink or blue.

I have finished Hint 1 of Secret of the Stole III. It is Knit Picks Gloss lace in Celery green. The color does not show up well in these pictures but it also has little clear mirrow lined glass beads. It is fun to knit.

The purple is 70% silk and 30% fine merino... The pink blue and Green stirpes are Regia and I don't remember the content. The same for the blue and pink. The last blue and pink pair are a little scratchy but the oter two are yummy.

While at the convention I went around and snapped some shots of some of the pretty knitting. A pretty blue shawl by a unknown lady and a great felted purse by one of our Columbus knitters Merida. I had to model this funky and cool shawl made by he Ozark Handspun folks and the bottom picture was too funny to pass up. Some of us went to eat in the Hyatt since the big storm was on its way. We were in the BB2 lounge and the booth seat was so low that Kay and Carol looked like little kids eating. I think they were sitting like that because they were afraid the glass wall was going to crash in on them during the storm

There was a big, and I mean a really big storm while we were eating dinner and the Ravelry guys were sitting next to us with their litle friend Bob. The weather was really bad and we all kept trying to act like we were used to that sort of weather but it was really scary. I kept thinking the big wall of glass was going to come crashing in on us.

By time the event was over we were best friends!!!!!

Jenny and the boys got here today at noon. Of course we went to Bob Evans for lunch and then just visited for a bit and looked at the flowers in the yard. They are on their way to Choschocton to visit the other grand parents and then she will be back to see me for Thurs, Fri, Sat ad Sunday. Look how big Nic has grown since January. He was the same height as Jenny in Jan and he just shot up. Its a good thing he is wearing shorts or he would be in high water pants.

Here is Hint 8 and its only Tuesday at noon. I do have a little yarn left but I really don't think it will be enough. I have orderd one more skein from Knit Picks and also some wires for blocking. I just hope the skein matches the ones I have knit. Also with all the snow I was able to do some knitting the last few days.

Here we are in Columbus Ohio with 20.4 inches (official weather bureau stats) and I am stuck inside. Its ok because I am knitting on the Secret of the Stole II. After this weeks hint there is only one more and then I'll be finished. It is looking good but very long.

They say this is worse than the blizzard of 78.

It is still snowing and so far we have had as much as 15 inches in part of Columbus. It is the most I have seen here since comming to Ohio. It is almost more than I saw in Michigan when I was there. Wow!!!

Here is the prize I won from Secret of the Stole II

I won this patern and 100% Soy Silk lace weight yarn from the Secret of the Stole II KAL. I have never knit on such tiny yarn so I don't know if I can do it, but I am trying a swatch. The wood needles work better than the metal but I am going to try the Harmony needles to see if they work better. I know my friend Kay is really bummed out about the Harmony comming apart at the join, but I havn't had problems with the Harmony's that I have used so far.
In the background is the Secret of the Stole II. I am keeping up with the crowd and only have Hint 8 & 9 to go. Yeah!!!

The start of Secret of the Stole 2

I have started the stole in KnitPicks Gloss in the color Concord Grape so the second picture is a more true color but the other picture show some of the work closer. I have hit a snag and have sent a post for help. I was seperating the center stitch with markers but when I got to the center on row 43 it shows a yarn over on the center stitch. I made the yarn over and I still have the center stitch to knit and I didn't know what to do with it. I dropped off the markers and as the next part of the pattern says to do knit 2tog and of course I couldn't since the marker was in the way. I continued on and ended up with the wrong amount of stitches. I tinked it out and am waiting for someone to tell me how many stitches I should have on the wrong side row 42. I will then attempt to go on.

Progress of the Weird socks

I stopped for a while to do some other knitting and now have started back on the weird socks. I guess they are bright huh? Everyone I show them to likes them and always asks who they are for. When I say myself, they all look stunned. I don't understand why they would say this. Then I tell them I am going to add BLING and then they all laugh and say "Oh of course"........... He he.

Here is my attempt at the weird color socks. Kay made them and so have some of the other knitwits. I am making my pattern up as I go along. Bright Huh? In this photo the little dots look red but are actually orange. I also have some blue to use but can't find it. It just walked off. I had it sitting on the hutch with all the other colors and now I can't find it. Maybe Elvis got it..The yarn is Filatura Di Crosa Maxine Soft Socks. It is superwash and is 80%Merino and 20% Polymide. Nice and soft but also strong. I had to use size 1 needles and it is taking a lot longer and the needles I am using really sticks holes in my finger tips. Ouch!!!!

It's snowing like a son of a gun and this is just after 3 hours. Great big flakes and it looks very pretty. It is a wet snow and I have been out a couple of times to shovel around my car. I am also testing some new spray on the windows that is supposed to keep the ice and snow from sticking. It should get a good test today. If you click on the bottom picture you can see up close how big the flakes are.

This is the dreaded Diamond Fantasy Shawl and I have had it with this one. Thanks to Yarnoholic Beth, she got me this far, but this is hopeless and it will never be finished. I made another mistake and I just can not stay focused enough to do this with out making mistakes. Poor Beth spends all her time fixing it for me. Well I will not subject her to it anymore, so it is going to to be banished to the basement where it can think about its bad behavior. Maybe next year folks!!!!!

Here we are in our Victorian Shawlette we made as a knit a long. I did a pink one first but I don't like the color so I made another. Susan made the white with silver thread and then made two more little ones for her grandaughter. Beth is our teacher and helper and enabler and she has the dark burgandy one and Ruth (seated) has the pretty red one.

I finally finished this shawl. Wow did it take a long time to knit. All that endless garter stitch. I was afaid that I wouldn't have enough of the brown to do the edge but I just squeaked by. Hooray.

Here is the 2nd Victorian Shoulderette that I finished. This one has little silver threads that sparkle. I really like this one better than the pink one. This is a Sivia Harding pattern.

Strange beasts on the ranch.

Well here is Cheeto the baby Longhorn. He was a very popular guy at the Round up. People place bets to determine what number he would POOP on. Since it landed on a line between two numbers the two winners had to split the pot (not full of S---T,but of money and Jenny won $180.00.
Next is the pot belly pig, who thinks he is a dog. When he is told to "Sit" he does it on demand. He was very sweet and friendly.
Next is down by the lake and the cattle were getting a refreshing drink of water in the Hot Texas Sun.
The final picture is of a STRANGE CRITTER that was sitting out by the Chow area. There were several of them around and seemed to have something to do with Halloween. There were all sorts of rusted farm, implements stuck in them. Some where my favorite and had all sorts of old Bling Jewelry used for the eyes and mouth. Fun!

While in Texas Jenny took me to a spa and we each had a massage and pedicure. The massage was great for me and not so much for Jenny. Her pedicure was great but not so much for me. The girl doing mine wasn't paying attention and was using the scrub thing on my foot. She thought she was on the part under my big toe where the skin was rough, but she looked away and started scrubbing on the soft skin. By time I noticed it and yelped she had rubbed a hole in my skin.

Oh by the way the sweater I'm wearing is the one I knit for Jenny in that Jaeger yarn. It has grown really big in size on the width and it looks awful baggy on Jenny so I took it back. It fits me, but I am really pissed that it stretched out so much. I really took my time kniting it for her and now she can't wear it.

Well, since I took soooo many pictures I will start with the yarn shop to let you see what Hill Country Weavers looks like. It is on South Congress in Austin and is located in an old house. It is crammed and I mean CRAMMED full of yarn and all sorts of kniting supplies. I didn't stay long since I was with a NON KNITTER, my daughter Jenny but I would love to spend a couple of days just in this shop. I must say the people in the store were not very friendly, but I wasn't sure if I was talking to a worker bee or the owner, but the lady was not friendly. I told her I had ordered on line and I was from Ohio and wanted to take pictures for my knitting friends. She just sort of scared at me and mumbled something then walked away. Oh well! It was her loss as I didn't buy anything but a drop spindle for Miss Kay.

This started as a old sweater for the base and then I have knitted the leaves and flowers. I also found a purse at the Goodwill store and am using the handles from it. It is still in piecesand will soon be sewn.
Also that is Elvis checking it out. He has to sniff each piece to decide if he like it.

This yarn is from YarnSmiths and is Silk and nylon. I got it at the Knitters Connection. I am dissapointed that the stripes are not a bit wider as I want to see the colors better. I like the part on the one on the left around the instep. See how you can see the pink and green better?

Well now that it is 90 + degrees, I just finally wimped out. I just couldn't stand the heat anymore without a working AC. I just went out and bought a new car. I MEAN NEW PEOPLE!!!!!!!. I was going to try to find a low milage used, oh I mean PRE LOVED car, but I just couldn't find the right one. A friend on mine told me about the Saturn Vue and we went looking on Sunday evening. (thats when the vultures are not at work), I looked at Toyota, Honda, Kia, & Subaru . They were either way tooooo expensive or I just didn't like the looks. Have you seen the Scion? It gets great mileage (38 MPG) but it is as UGLY as SIN. It looks like a cereal box turned on end with wheels, or maybe the London Bobbies vehicles. Just think of that Winey noise that the Bobbies sirens makes and you'll get the picture.

I am finally back on line and here is my latest completed project. These are Panda cotton with bamboo. They are really soft and comfy. I did knit 2 tog and a yarn over all around every 5th row. I also di a picot edge around the top.

I started these thrummed mittens in a really pretty tourquoise. They are going ok so far. Of course with all the crap about global warming, I'll probably put them in the "museum of former things people wore, before it warmed up"!!!!!!! Ha, what a crock..........

It's been a long time and I have been busy. I started the new job as manager of Ronald McDonald House in Columbus and was also trying to finish up the other jobs I do for CVS and Kohls. Needless to say working double time is tiring and I havn't done much knitting. I did finish the camel socks and never again will I knit with that ungiving stuff. It is just too hard on my hands. I also got the Tasha Tudor shawl finished except for the lace edging. That will take some time, but I am slowly working on it. I also have started on a sock out of STR Lemongrass colorway.
The job is going well and I like it a lot better than the other job. With the cost of gasoline I just couldn't keep doing it.

Well here it is, a finished object. It will be in the mail in a few days to the hot climate of Texas.

In another note, I have been remiss because I have taken a full time job with the Ronald McDonald House Charities. I am the evening family services manager. So far I like it, but there are times when it really gets hectic. Last night there were only two volunteers on duty and one got sick and went home. That left one to answer the phones and open the door. I had a check out that did not clean the room and someone on the waiting list, soooooo. There I was with the executive director (who should have gone home at 5:00) cleaning the room. We also had a security alarm that went off and no one cleaned up after themselves from dinner so we were runing all night. By time my relief came in at 10:45 I was beat.
Needless to say I slept in this morning.

Now I know that many of you know that I have an occasional deer and several raccoons that pass through my yard, even though I live in Columbus Ohio and am not out in the country, but this is a little too much. I now have a ground hog living under my front porch. She is a brazen little devil and comes out in the daylight to eat and get some sun. I have named her Glenda the GroundHog, so say Hi to her as you pass by. The top picture she is under the shrub in front of the porch and the second she is walking across the lawn to nibble some of the newly green grass.

Here is what I have knit so far on the shell for Jenny. It is in Jaeger Trinity, which is silk, cotton and some poly. I think it will be a cool weight for the hot Texas summers. Hope she likes it.

On Saturday we drove over to Salado. There is a beautiful spring fed river and all along this street are little shops, a stagecoach stop that is a good place to eat. This picture would be better in another week as the leaves are all ready to pop out on the trees.
